Some battery maintenance tips:
1) It is best to keep the exterior surfaces of the battery case clean, especially between the main connection terminals. Some build up of heavy film between the terminals may cause a slight, constant short, which will draw from the battery's full charge state.
2) When adding water to a battery, always use distilled water only!
3) Install felt-type, acid-neutralizing/absorbing, battery terminal protection rings on both terminals and replace as necessary.
4) The use of replacement stainless steel or brass nuts, bolts, or machine screws, is a good idea to replace any standard, plated bolts used at the battery terminal clamp areas.
5) Battery additive: The only patented battery additive on the market that extends the life of a lead-acid battery is “Charge-It”. Search for it on the internet, as now more companies than before carry it. Use the keywords “Charge-It battery additive”.
6) Product test results from website owner, Dave: This product is amazing! I owned a 1977 Plymouth, in which I added the proper amount of “Charge-It” to a Sears Die-Hard battery when it was new in 1999. [Proper amount for this size 12V battery is ½ (0.5) fl. oz. for each of the 6 cells.] After about 8 years, I gave the battery another one of the same dosage. I sold the car in 2015 in Albrightsville, PA. It still had the same battery which worked like new. When the battery was 16 years old, it still started the carburetor-equipped engine, first try after one week of sitting in the garage, (approx. 15 engine revolutions), at 12 degrees F (inside separate garage temp.), with 10W-40 Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil in the crankcase. Battery looked very clean inside, where the plates are, even after 16 years of life. I highly recommend this inexpensive, non-flammable, top-choice product. Rating = # 10!
